Matt Hochmiller began his piano studies at the age of seven. He received his Bachelor of Music (summa cum laude) from Temple University, where he studied with Alexander Fiorillo, former pupil of legendary concert pianist Vladimir Horowitz. He earned the Master of Music degree from the University of the Arts, where he was a student of esteemed jazz educator Don Glanden.

Matt taught for 21 years at the Menchey Music Education Center (now the Menchey School of Music) in York, PA before starting his own studio in the same area. He has also been performing professionally throughout Pennsylvania and beyond for over thirty years, primarily as a freelance jazz pianist. He has performed with numerous nationally and internationally renowned artists (including Richie Cole, Marvin Stamm, Terrell Stafford, Mickey Roker, Tim Warfield, Jimmy Bruno, Steve LaSpina, Chris Vadala, Rogerio Bocato, J.D. Walter, Michael Formanek, Bill Goodwin, Les DeMerle, John Blake Jr., John Swana, Bunky Green), as well as many of the finest musicians in the greater Harrisburg and Philadelphia areas. Matt also enjoys performing and teaching sacred music, and has served as the music director and/or pianist at several churches.

Also an accomplished trumpet player and instructor, Matt began his studies on that instrument at age ten and continued through his early college years as a music education major. His instructors included Edward Timbrell and Bill Perbetsky. His ensemble experience includes band, orchestra, jazz ensemble and small groups of various musical styles. Jazz being one of his specialties, Matt is able to teach improvisation to students of all levels. He also enjoys teaching how to play by ear as a regular part of lessons.
